November 3 Toledo Grecorooms 55 euros including breakfast

After a morning walk around Nerja we began the 4 1/2 hour drive to Toledo.  All the roads we’ve traveled on have been so well maintained.  We tried to stop for a lunch break and quickly realized that everyone was returning from their 3 day weekend and stopping for lunch as well so we journeyed on and rejoiced over the emptiness of the highway!

Nerja looked beautiful in the daytime:

Above: the same place we stayed 30+ years ago with possibly the same fishing boats but the pulley that brought them in no longer functional.

And now Toledo very briefly.  We managed to get right to our hotel which happens to be in the Jewish section where the ancient synagogue is and the Sephardic museum.  Thanks to Google maps and Booking.com we navigate well.  Since our mobile data is limited we turn on cellular unless we are in a WiFi zone and get the destination up on the map, then turn it off and it still directs us.  The app maps.me works offline as well.

At the synagogue.  Perhaps our Xmas card this year😉

We’re feeling ready to come home, much renewed.  We have no regrets about how our trip turned out , enjoying the new places we discovered, especially Zafra and Tarifa and revisiting the ones we loved in the past, Nerja and Toledo .  The moments of cycling outdoors, heading someplace new, endorphins flowing are some of the best and we are not ready to give those up.  The problems with the bike are frustrating.  We had concerns from the start about how they would hold up with so many wires and electronics to keep in place.  When they worked they were superb.  We charged the batteries in the evening and away we went each day.  Hopefully we will get some answers from Bike Friday.  A solution may be to go someplace, stay for a while and cycle from a base.  Who knows?  That we were able to adjust and co to us to create a rewarding time for ourselves is empowering.  Preparation is the key to being spontaneous!

October 19 Day 2 in Salamanca Hotel Trypp After a record breaking 11 hours of sound sleep another cameo breakfast appearance called. Love the tomato purée to put on bread among the many other delights . Off to Salamanca we went on our bikes! Our hotel is a bit out of town, across the river. We were intent upon finding a certain bike store to check out and tune up our bikes but found José at Bicycletas Palacio. Perfect! Little hole in the wall repair place and for 24 Euros each he had our bikes adjusted and ready to rock and ride. In the meantime, we strolled the town feeling in sync with the world. Beautiful college town, university founded in 1100,a UNESCO world heritage site and just the right size to experience. Recommended by José we found the Jockey Club a locally patronized restaurant and tried the typical dish of Salamanca, chanfaina. I shall share the ingredients and say no more.
