November 1 Tarifa

We were on the same wavelength (surprise) .  This may not be a Camino in the strict sense but it is working its magic in terms of feeing a different sense of time and space individually and together.

We lazed around, had a home cooked meal, drifting in and out of naps and reading and then finally around 2pm urged ourselves to go out.  And what a time we had !
Right outside our apartment is a long boardwalk bu the ocean leading us straight to the bridge island where on one side is the Mediterranean and the other the Atlantic!  After our now daily walk of 7+ miles, we wandered the old town once again and had some tapas.  Craig had pork.  Another daily occurrence!  I had salmorejo and a salad with goat cheese.  And then home we walked to complete season 1 of The Man in the High Castle.
Questions to look up:
What is Spain’s immigration policy?
Are there still many mosques in Spain post Inquisition?
And even though we are following the daily rhythm of Spanish life, warinf after 8:30 and staying up, we wonder how the Spanish do it and still work and raise their children .  So much of life seemingly takes place in the social areas outside in the cafes, plazas, paseos.
And then a reminder to write about the man from Venezuela we met and his story of fleeing his homeland to make a better life for his family.

  1. Such an incredible adventure. Sounds and looks like utopia!

  2. Tarifa is a great place to visit & for outdoor sports (MTB, kite / wind surfing and surfing); the price to be paid is the wind, it's nearly always windy down here.

October 19 Day 2 in Salamanca Hotel Trypp After a record breaking 11 hours of sound sleep another cameo breakfast appearance called. Love the tomato purée to put on bread among the many other delights . Off to Salamanca we went on our bikes! Our hotel is a bit out of town, across the river. We were intent upon finding a certain bike store to check out and tune up our bikes but found José at Bicycletas Palacio. Perfect! Little hole in the wall repair place and for 24 Euros each he had our bikes adjusted and ready to rock and ride. In the meantime, we strolled the town feeling in sync with the world. Beautiful college town, university founded in 1100,a UNESCO world heritage site and just the right size to experience. Recommended by José we found the Jockey Club a locally patronized restaurant and tried the typical dish of Salamanca, chanfaina. I shall share the ingredients and say no more.
