Salamanca to Plasencia

.
Oh the weather ! PTSD from the Coast to Coast in England! Cold and wet and no way we are able to convince ourselves to ride. And then there’s the headwind.
After deliberation over breakfast, we called a cab and got to the Alsa bus station. The bus leaving at 12 was full so we waited for the 3pm. I guess we’re not the only ones seeking some sunshine.
ThIs gave us time to get lost wandering around the old town of Salamanca again and get bocadillos from the store claiming to have “the best bocadillos in the world.”
Schlep. There’s that word again. 2 bikes in bags, 4 panniers and my purse. We did well with help from the taxi drivers on both ends of the bus trips . But we are ready to be riding instead of carting them around. Seems slow starts are our middle name .
We’re tucked in for the night 10 miles north of Plasencia in Villar de Plasencia so we had to backtrack to this place, El Rincon de Plasencia that I had reserved on Booking.com. No worries. Just means we ride more tomorrow! It’s an ancient town with one pub that was full tonight of townsfolk out to socialize over churros and chocolate.
Dinner was simple- a salad and some delicious sautéed mushrooms for me and some chicken breast and salad and fries for Craig. No raw beef, foie or rice with innards today!!
Our proprietor is so gregarious and lovely. This is the slow season but you can tell how she loves meeting people from all over. Evidently more Italians are walking the Camino these days.
When we walked into the pub with her. A group of men were playing cards. She greeted them but they went on playing so she shouted out and then they responded. t that point I said, “ah hombres,” knowing she would connect with that attitude and sure enough she laughed and said , “they BBC ain’t so 2 things at the same time.” I didn’t disagree😉.
The weather has improved. It’s sunny. Tomorrow we hopefully get in the rhythm of riding!
