Happy Halloween 👻

Big celebration tonight in the old town.  Tomorrow is a national holiday so everything is closed and everyone ready to celebrate.  There’s a Zombie walk in town where all kinds of performances happen in the streets, music, films, and all the establishments are decorated and people dress up and parade.  Since freak flags seem to be flying normally here, it ought to be quite a scene.  VW vans are revered.  That tells all!!!
We’ll walk there later.  Right now it’s tapas time at he inn while we listen to NPR and hear about the impeachment vote and hope that all are safe from fires in California.

Today we drove along the coast to a lovely coastal town with a long walk (Paseo) along the ocean.  The sand was warm and the ocean warm enough to walk along comfortably.  Some were swimming.  86 degrees with a soft breeze.  Many expats.  In fact more English spoken than I’ve heard since we arrived .

King of the road!
And what a celebration it was!  We left at 11:30 and it was still going strong.  Children still out frolicking, live music playing and the zombie walk down the main street of the old town that we filmed but can’t show here so you’ll have to ask us to share upon our return.  What pleasure in being amongst people of all ages with no threat of violence , no ugly scenes, no discernible anger seething on a warm night through tangled streets narrow enough to touch both walls with small cafes serving beverages and food of all kinds- mostly all Spanish food with a smattering of Italian, one sushi place I saw and a Thai place.  We came across one that seemed good and ended up having the best food of the trip.  No need to eat big meals; the tapas serve .

October 19 Day 2 in Salamanca Hotel Trypp After a record breaking 11 hours of sound sleep another cameo breakfast appearance called. Love the tomato purée to put on bread among the many other delights . Off to Salamanca we went on our bikes! Our hotel is a bit out of town, across the river. We were intent upon finding a certain bike store to check out and tune up our bikes but found José at Bicycletas Palacio. Perfect! Little hole in the wall repair place and for 24 Euros each he had our bikes adjusted and ready to rock and ride. In the meantime, we strolled the town feeling in sync with the world. Beautiful college town, university founded in 1100,a UNESCO world heritage site and just the right size to experience. Recommended by José we found the Jockey Club a locally patronized restaurant and tried the typical dish of Salamanca, chanfaina. I shall share the ingredients and say no more.
